Ericsson sets workshop on Mobile Backhaul

-

MANILA, Philippines - Ericsson Telecommunications, Inc. Philippines will hold a workshop on its latest Mobile Backhaul and IP RAN solutions on May 29, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Boardroom 3 of the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City. Interested parties may call Ericsson Communications and Marketing at 789-1881 or 789-1896 to register for the event registration is free of charge.

Network specialists from Ericsson’s headquarters in Sweden will conduct a Mobile Backhaul Demo to show how the commercially available solutions from Ericsson support backhaul of all relevant RAN technologies in any mix (GSM/WCDMA/HSPA/LTE), including end-to-end IP RAN over Ethernet solutions as well as end-to-end network management.

“The demo will focus o the two main challenges foreseen in mobile backhaul: how to address the capacity challenge, and how to address cost efficiency,” Rajendra Pangrekar, Ericsson Philippines’ president and country manager, said.

“Meeting the challenge of reducing costs while rolling out new mobile coverage and capacity requires an even greater focus on solutions that provide lower total cost of ownership (TCO). This means creating solutions that make efficient use of energy, building space, radio spectrum and transmission resources. Maximizing transmission efficiency is especially important as transmission can account for up to 50 percent of the mobile network TCO.

For Philippine mobile operators, savings in the region of around 70 percent can be achieved by upgrading the GSM RAN from its original circuit-switched design to an IP-based packet-switched RAN, including the ability to connect calls already at the base transceiver station (BTS),” Pangrekar said.
