Meralco fasttracks project to improve service in Cavite

Lopez-controlled Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) is pushing its program to enhance services in the Cavite area by putting on line a P1-billion 230 kilovolt substation in the province.

The power firm has commissioned a substation to address a “major delivery point of power directly from the power plant to the transmission lines on to the Amadeo delivery point substation that will serve the whole province.”

Meralco said the line was supposed to start operation in 2012 yet power but the company opted to advance its inauguration to augment the growing power demand in the area.

The substation is located along C.M. de los Reyes Avenue, Barangay Banaybanay in Amadeo, Cavite.

Specifically, the Cavite substation will serve main municipalities/towns in Cavite such as Amadeo, Silang, Tagaytay, Indang, Alfonso, Mendez, Dasmarinas, Trece Martires, Ternate, Rosario, Gen. Mariano Alvarez, Gen. Trias, Aguinaldo, Margondon, Carmona and Imus.

“It aims to lower technical systems loss of the sub-transmission system, avert brownouts by providing alternate power source in the province in case of outages from the TransCo Dasmarinas substation and provide bulk capacity,” Meralco said.

Some big customers of Meralco situated in Cavite will benefit from the new substation. Among them are Intel, Euro Med Lab Philippines, Holland Pacific Paper, Philippine Dairy Products, San Miguel Corp., Universal Robina Corp., Dasmarinas Paper Mills, Consolidated Industrial Gases, and Cypress Manufacturing Ltd.

Meralco said there are also economic zones in the Cavite area such as Daichi Industrial Park, Gateway Business Park, People’s Technology Complex and First Cavite Industrial Park which will be served by the new facility.

For the past years, Meralco has been allocating about P5 billion for its capital expenditure program to be able to expand its services to its customers. At present, Meralco serves four million customers in 25 cities and 86 municipalities in its franchise area.
