Canada's IMW to assist DOE in CNG study for transport sector

-

Canadian firm IMW Industries Ltd. will assist the Department of Energy (DOE) in the development of compressed natural gas (CNG) particularly in the transport industry.

IMW senior vice president Kirk Livingston told reporters they are in talks with the DOE for a possible conduct of a study that would focus on the potential locations of CNG mother and daughter stations.

“We have been coordinating with the DOE for this study. We will help and support them identify the possible sites and the proper infrastructure for CNG refilling stations,” Livingston said.

IMW is operating in 26 countries all over the world but has only recently established presence in the Philippines.

“At present, our main concern is to assist the government in coming up with the proper standards and infrastructure,” Livingston said.

He said the DOE wants to make sure all the CNG infrastructure that would be put up will conform the international standards.

“It is good to note that the DOE is serious about developing this kind of technology and at the same time ensure the safety of the public,” he said.

The IMW executive said one area that they would look at is the supply of gas.

“The DOE is also concerned if development of CNG for the transport sector can be sustained. They want to make sure that the gas is supplied to the industry,” he said.

He said on the location, they are also coordinating with the Department of Transportation and Communication. We have identified a number of potential locations but we have to determine if there would be enough market in those sites.

“It will depend on the number of buses, taxi fleets or even private vehicles plying in that area,” he said.

IMW is a single-source supplier of CNG/NGV fueling systems, including compressors, dispensers, gas control systems and storage systems.
