Seatrans to operate P940-M oil tanker

Filipino owned Seatrans Corp. will operate a P940 million oil tanker in the Port of Limay, Bataan capable of transporting petroleum products all over the country.

The multi-million project was given incentives by the Board of Investments (BOI). The investment arm of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has also given the project a pioneer status because of the magnitude of the investment.

The tanker will transport petroleum products from the refineries and terminals to oil depots and bulk plants along coastal routes all over the country.

Seatrans is a new operator of domestic shipping oil tanker vessel. At full capacity, Seatrans will be employing almost 30 people.

The project involves the operation of one brand new 3,600 DWT Double Hull tanker. This type of tanker is an internationally classed vessel which will be fitted with Purple Finder security system, a global positioning system (GPS) device.

The GPS will be able to send coordinates where the vessels are located at any given time during the day. It will likewise enhance the capability of the operations team to monitor the whereabouts of the vessel to ensure that no untoward incident has occurred.

The double hull feature will also help prevent damage to the country’s marine life as it minimizes the danger of an oil spill.
