Local garment firm to invest P576M in Subic

- Ma. Elisa Osorio  -
A Filipino garment manufacturer involved in the exports of all kinds of quality apparel has invested P576 million in Subic Bay Freeport, an investment that is expected to generate at least 1,000 new jobs.

The garments factory was transferred to the ecozone from its original plant in Mariveles, Bataan as part of its expansion program.

"The company will be locating at the Subic Bay Industrial Park (SBIP) as part of its expansion program to cope with the growing demand of such products abroad," Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chairman Feliciano G. Salonga said in a statement.

Roosar Manufacturing Corp. (RMC), sister company of Limech Garments Corp. will be the newest import export company in Subic.

According to Salonga, the construction of the garment factory is in line with the commitment of SBMA to create 150,000 additional employment by 2010 as it aims to attract P7.5 billion investment in the Freeport.

SBMA has tripled its three-year employment and investment target after a stellar 2006 performance.

The new targets are in connection with the new role that SBMA has pledged, that is to contribute to poverty alleviation which is part of the President’s 10-point agenda.

Subic, together with Clark are tapped to play significant roles in the Metro Luzon Urban Beltway, a project expected to propel the country into first world status.
