B&L Texas Hold ‘em Mall Tour East Wood City Challenge — 3rd Leg

- Rey Gamboa -
Dec. 3, 2005 saw another huge crowd at the Eastwood City as the 3rd leg of the Business & Leisure Texas Hold‚em Mall Tour, Eastwood City Challenge took place. This is the penultimate game in the series, and all first, second and third placers of the three legs of the tournament will meet again on the fourth and last leg of the series which is today, Dec. 10, also at Eastwood.

The Honda bigwigs were there to lend their support and show their appreciation for this new venture which was made possible by their generous participation. The Honda officials were led by no less than the President of Honda Motor Philippines, Mr. Takeshi Sekiguchi, Mr. Arnel Doria, Deputy Head for Marketing, Ms. Nanako Kumamoto of Honda Motors Japan, and Ms. Tintin Reyes, the hardworking PR officer of Honda Motors Philippines. They gamely gave away raffle prizes during the breaks, and awarded the beautiful glass trophies from Asahi Philippines.

The photos on this spread show the winners proudly receiving their trophies. But what was remarkable throughout the evening was the camaraderie and spirit of sportiness that all the players enjoyed. It was a mix of old and new players, some veterans of Pinoy poker playing for over a decade, but mostly we had new players, as young as four months old on the gaming table. They were gung ho and ready to face the veterans. We even had Texas Hold‚em players from the United States, and they were amazed and pleasantly surprised that we hold such tournaments here already, and in the malls at that!

Recipes, a well-known restaurant in Eastwood was our bar host that night. The buffet spread they provided was delectable ˆ everyone enjoyed the Thai spring rolls, the spicy and flavorful chicken and eggplant casserole, stir-fried noodles and the endless pork barbecue that people just kept picking up as they passed by the buffet. Of course, Ralph‚s Wines kept everyone in good spirits. Our thanks to our other sponsors Genuino Water, Concept One for those grand and comfortable chairs of the tournament players, Vistamar Beach Resort and Hyatt Hotel and Casino who provided overnight stays for the winners, and A-Toy for the gift packs we raffled off that night.

Congratulations too to the winners of the 3rd Leg: 3rd place

1st place — Oliver Zorilla

2nd place — Juan R. Salcedo III

3rd place — Franco Montano

See you all tonight when all the winners face off for the Championship at Eastwood City at 6:00 p.m.
