BCDA puts Mimosa Golf Club on auction block in 4th quarter

- Marianne V. Go -
The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) is tentatively setting for either November or December the public bidding for the 200 to 300 hectares Mimosa Golf Club that was foreclosed by the Clark Development Corp. (CDC) from Mondragon Industries.

According to BCDA president and chief executive officer Narciso Abaya, the BCDA last month had announced the public bidding for Mimosa.

The BCDA is now working on the terms of reference for the yearend bidding.

No minimum floor price has been set and there have been no applications yet for prospective bidders.

Abaya admitted though that BCDA had earlier been in talks with the Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) regarding the possible acquisition of Mimosa where a casino is located.

Unfortunately, Abaya said, the PAGCOR Board was not agreeable to the terms presented by CDC-BCDA and the deal fell through.

In another development, Abaya assured that the government and Congress are working to ensure the grant of incentives to Clark and Camp John Hay locators following concerns raised by investors in the two special economic zones.

Abaya pointed out that Senator Richard Gordon and Juan Ponce-Enrile are agreeable to passing a bill that would reinstate incentives for Clark and Camp John Hay locators.
