Cemex to close batching plant

Cemex Philippines will close its concrete batching plant in Muntinlupa and cease its operations effective end-February.

The closure is due to the continued losses of this operation resulting from lack of demand for ready-mix products and falling prices.

With a depreciated ready-mix market, concrete volumes dropped significantly from 51,000 cubic meters in 2001 to 30,000 cubic meters in 2003. Combined with a 30 percent decline in product prices during the same period, the company was forced to consider and implement the closure.

Cemex Concrete batching plant was commissioned in July 2000 and started commercial production in September of the same year. Cemex was the only multinational company that invested and participated in the ready-mix business.
