Seoul-based Asiana Airlines will commence regular flights to the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) in Clark, Pampanga on Oct. 30 with an initial frequency of two flights a week.
By December, Asiana will increase its flights to thrice weekly, said Victor Luciano, executive vice president of Clark Development Corp. (CDC).
According to Luciano, Asiana will use a fleet of Airbus A321 planes which could carry up to 177 passengers each.
Asiana Airlines is Koreas second flag carrier and was established in Feb. 1988 by the Kumbo Group.
Asiana has a fleet of 65 aircraft and flies to more than 660 destinations in 72 airports in 125 countries.
With regular flights from Korea, the Philippines will hopefully attract more Korean tourists, Luciano said.
Korean tourists arrivals reportedly reached about 250,000 this year, making Koreans the third biggest tourist visitors to the country.
The (DMIA) in Clark Airbase in Pampanga was envisioned to decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
However, it is still in the process of upgrading its radar facilities as well as taxiways to be able to accommodate bigger aircraft and more landings and takeoffs.
