Globe, IBM sign IT agreement

Globe Telecom and IBM Phils. have entered into an agreement that will allow GlobeQUEST DataCentres clients to have a back-up site for their Information Technology (IT) systems in case any untoward incident happens.
There is a big demand for disaster recovery service especially in the banking sector due to a recent order issued by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) requiring all banks to have such a site.
In view of the situation, GlobeQUEST decided to tap IBMs Business Continuity and Recovery Service using the IBM iSeries which is widely used by corporate customers.
GlobeQUEST will provide the data center facility to house the equipment while IBM will provide the service expertise for the implementation and operation of the machine.
Jesus C. Romero, GlobeQUEST head, pointed out that businesses which are heavily dependent on IT systems always need a back-up in case disaster strikes.
Without such a back-up, he said the cost to the business of system unavailability will increase dramatically. "Corporations need to resume critical operations within the fastest time possible. Thats why GlobeQUEST and IBM are here to make that possible," he added.
Romero said enterprises can no longer afford to be separated from their data and systems but it would be expensive to build and maintain such a solution entirely on their own.
"Leveraging on the infrastructure capability of GlobeQUEST and the services leadership of IBM especially in disaster recover, customers can count on a back-up system that will protect their investments in corporate information infrastructure," said Laurent Lecaroz, ITS manager of IBM Philippines. "We are a win-win solution to an otherwise lose-lose situation."
Thus, with the partnership between Globe and IBM, GlobeQUEST DataCentres clients will be able to continue mission-critical operations at a reasonable cost despite planned and unplanned interruptions.
GlobeQUEST launched recently its Internet data center (IDC) service to provide the necessary infrastructure and technology to house and optimize mission-critical information and applications of the clients and are staffed and supported by a team of IT experts.
