-
A top Taiwanese garment firm is investing P125 million to set up manufacturing operations in the Subic Bay Freeport.

Limech Garments Mfg. Corp., one of Taiwan’s top garments firm and top supplier for famous name brands like Adidas, K-Mart, Walmart, AMC and Penguin, will lease 7,500 square meters inside the Taiwanese Industrial Park which is managed by the Subic Bay Development Management Corp. (SBDMC).

According to Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chairman Felicito Payumo, Limech’s decision to invest in the freeport will provide more jobs and attract other businesses to also set up shop in Subic.

Sammy Chou, Limech president, said the decision to invest in Subic was due to its proximity to Manila and the availability of an excellent workforce.

Chou said: "We look forward to opening here. Our decision to come here is because of the good workforce, the nearness to Manila, the excellent security and living conditions it offers."

SBDMC vice president Sean Chen noted that more and more companies are looking at the freeport because of its attractive incentives.

Limech is expected to employ an initial 800 workers, rising to 2,000 workers when the company goes into full operation.

Construction for Limech’s new plant will start Aug. 21 and will take at least six months to complete.

Target date for the start of manufacturing operations will be in February next year. – Marianne Go
