Samsung launches World Cyber Games in RP

Samsung Electronics Philippines, Corp. has announced it will launch the country’s first attempt to participate in the 2nd World Cyber Games (WCG 2002). Through a series of preliminary competitions in the "1st Philippine Cyber Games Challenge," Filipino playes will be chosen to compete with some 500 gamers from 53 countries in Daejon, South Korea for grand prizes amounting to $300,000 to the top winners.

The nationwide games will bring together more than 9,000 Filipino gaming enthusiasts who will compete in PC game events including Star Craft: Brood War, Age of Empires: The Conquerors Expansion and Counter Strike. Only gamers who are 16 years old and above qualify for the international competition although players 16 years old and below may also register for the minor league.

The preliminaries will be held simultaneously from Aug. 1 to 30, 2002 in four Metro Manila venues and 10 keys cities and provinces including Dagupan, Angeles, Baguio, Legaspi, Iloilo, Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Davao and Cebu from August 1-30, 2002.

With this event, Samsung aims to tap the talents and energy of the Filipino youth and challenge them to excel in the World Cyber Games. As the leader in the digital entertainment culture, Samsung believes this will be another sporting event that will arouse the national pride of all Filipinos.

Interested participants may register at www.samsungelectronics.ph until July 15, 2002. Registrants will be notified of their game schedule and venue.
