The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced it is setting up LTO kiosks in major shopping malls in Metro Manila that can process and issue a drivers renewal license in only two minutes.
At a special meeting of land transport leaders in Malacañang, and in the presence of President Arroyo, LTO chief Gen. Roberto Lastimoso presented a prototype of the LTO kiosk and demonstrated how the new system works.
Lastimoso said the new LTO fast lane drivers license renewal system will be publicly launched at the Farmers Plaza in Cubao, Quezon City, tomorrow.
"The new system was devised by Amalgamated Motors Phils. Inc. (AMPI) and the Mega Data Corp. and can process more than 200 applicants a day. It can also detect fake licenses, deny issuance to an applicant who has a pending traffic violations, and record all traffic violations in the data base," Lastimoso said.
With the automated system, the LTO can now process and issue a drivers renewal license in just two minutes provided applicants can present their medical certificate and old credit card type license. The fast lane kiosks in shopping malls are expected to declog the long line of driver applicants in LTO branches and provide accessibility and convenience to the public.
President Arroyo congratulated the LTO-DOTC officials for their commitment to help improve the governments public service through the computerization of present systems.
