Global City locators urged to adopt zero accident system

New locators of Global City Fort Bonifacio were urged to adopt a zero-accident program befitting of the countrys flagship development site.
Mayor Freddie Tinga of Taguig said safety should be the primary concern of these locators as he cautioned against being careless and reckless in their construction projects in the light of a recent accident where a laborer suffered head and body injuries when its steel trusses collapsed.
Global City is a 150-hectare mixed-use property beside the Makati central business district whose locators contribute heavily to the coffers of the municipality and were honored recently with Most Outstanding Taxpayer Awards.
Tinga lauded them for their high sense of corporate and social responsibility and urged them to help retain the unblemished image of the Global City as the premier growth area in the country.
He reminded them to be judicious in their choice of those who will implement their projects to avoid mishaps that lead to delays that translate to additional costs and opportunity losses.
The mayor said he supports the temporary suspension given to the construction company to avoid further accidents and also to give them time to find out who is liable for the collapse of the structure.
"Contractors should comply with the requirements of the National Building Code and not resort to shortcuts that may lead to major accidents in the future," he added.
Paul Quintela, Taguig building official, earlier ordered the beleaguered construction company to stop work on their project after their laborer identified as Gilbert Calvadores was injured and rushed to the Makati Medical Center.
Tinga instructed Quintela to strictly enforce the building code to avoid a recurrence of the incident.
