Euro firm gets deal to expand Globe Telecoms SMS capacity

European telecom firm CMG Wireless Data Solutions has secured an 8.5 million Euro (about $7.82 million) deal with Globe Telecom Inc. for the expansion of the latters short messaging service (SMS) capacity to handle as much as 6,000 text messages per second.
Boudewijn Pesch, managing director of the Singapore-based CMG Wireless-Asia Pacific, said by being able to rely on the fastest performing SMS engine in the world, CMG has helped Globe bring an excellent returns and achieve a high customer satisfaction level.
"CMG is thrilled at the rate of growth Globe continues to establish. This additional messaging capacity is the proof of their messaging success," he said.
CMG Wireless is the leading global supplier of messaging, mobile Internet, and customer care and billing solutions for the wireless industry. In cooperation with its partners, it develops high-end solutions wherein more than 200 have been delivered to over 100 operators worldwide.
Among its product portfolio includes solutions based on the Wireless Service Broker, Unified Messaging Solution, Multimedia Message Service Center, Short Message Service Center, Cell Broadcast System and EPPIX (Customer Care & Billing System).
Since early 1999, Globe has worked closely with CMG for its SMS service needs, last upgrading its capacity to 3,500 messages per second in March 2001.
In the first quarter of this year, Globe led the Ayala group of companies in profit growth with a 33-percent surge in net income to P1.42 billion, anchored on the huge contributions from its wireless phone system with a subscriber base of five million as of end-March.
During the quarter alone, Globe spent a total of P5.2 billion for further infrastructure and investments in support of its products and services, which also include fixed line, international access and data communications. Conrado Diaz Jr.
