Credit group hails fraud convictions

The Credit Card Association of the Philippines (CCAP) hailed the conviction for fraud of two Asian foreigners by a local court.

Judge Manuel D. Victorio of the Makati Regional Trial Court found Lim King and Leung Hung Ying guilty under the Access Device Regulation Act of 1998. He sentenced each to three years in jail and a fine of P121,738.

The two pleaded guilty when charged, which explained the lighter jail term, normally a maximum of five years, and lower fine.

Lim alias Young Ma Park and Leung alias Sung Seub Lee were found to have obtained digital camera worth P521,498 at Avid Sony Shop and furniture worth P28,661 from SM Home World, respectively, by fraudulent means. They used counterfeit American Express Cards to effect the purchase.

The conviction, according to CCAP, is another significant event in its campaign against credit card fraud in the local market.
