Bonifacio Gas expands to other urban areas

- Marianne V. Go -
The Bonifacio Gas Corp. (BGC) is set to branch out its piped gas supply service from the Bonifacio Global City to other urban centers throughout the country.

"BGC is putting up state-of-the-art technology that is comparable to those used in the United States, United Kingdom and other advanced countries, BGC general manager Eric Piedad said yesterday.

In Asia, Piedad said, the piped-in gas system is widely used in Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan.

BGC was formed in November 1990 as a joint venture between Fort Bonifacio Development Corp. (FBDC) and Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp., an expert in piped gas operation worldwide.

BGC was started with an initial investment of P40 million.

The first phase of its centralized gas distribution system was installed at the Bonifacio Global City.

BGC is now servicing the pipe-in gas requirements of some of the establishments within the Bonifacio Global City, including the residential condominium Pacific Plaza Towers and the restaurants at the Fort Entertainment Center.

BGC, thus, is now planning to expand with similar service contract arrangements with other highly-developed urban centers in other parts of the country.

Piedad said that the piped gas distribution system was chosen primarily because it is safe, economical, efficient and environmentally sound. In a pipe-in gas system, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is delivered to households or industrial and commercial building through an integrated pipeline.

The pipeline stretches from strategically located tank farms to the end-users.
