SMK Electronics (Philippines) Inc., a 100-percent Japanese-owned corporation, is seeking "pioneer" status from the Board of Investments for its project to manufacture touch panel glass.
The new project will have a total cost of P431.7 million and involves the manufacture of touch panel glass. It is scheduled to start commercial operations in June this year.
Touch panel glass is used for automatic teller machines (ATMs), point of sales (POS) units, and private digital assistance (PDA).
Combining superb picture quality with innovative infrared touch technology, the panels are the ideal solution for the visualization and control of complex production systems even in the most industrialized environment.
Touch panels also provide a fast and reliable response to user inputs.
SMK has an existing registration with the BOI granted in March 1998.
In a span of just two years, SMK has grown rapidly and has decided to put up a bigger plant inside the Clark Premiere Industrial Park at Clark Field, Pampanga. It is duly registered with the Clark Development Corp.
Its plant is more than 90 percent complete and the remaining work covers only some finishing jobs. Around 40 percent of the capital equipment required is already installed and being test run.
SMK has an authorized capital of P304 million with a subscribed/paid-up capital stock of P99.91 million. Marianne Go
