PLDT inks pact with CBCPNet

The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. recently signed a contract with the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines, Inc. Network Corp. (CBCPNet) to provide broadband international connection for CBCPNet‘s comprehensive internet backbone to MCI UUNet, California, USA.

"With PLDT’s thrust of providing excellent high-end broadband data services, and CBCP’s strong determination to bring the latest in communications technology to even the remotest locations, we are positive this partnership will yield fruitful results," PLDT Corporate Business Group head Alfredo Panlilio said.

"This business deal with PLDT will surely boost our strong role for information technology in expanding the reach to the church. We intend to wire up every diocese, parish house and parochial school in the country. Likewise, in partnership with private companies, we are also setting up Internet cafes around the country to give the nation’s urban poor access to the Internet," CBCPNet chief executive officer Eman Lim said.

Under the agreement, PLDT will provide a DS3 (45 Mbps) IPL link to CBCPNet which they will use as an Internet connection to MCI UUNet in California.

PLDT is the principal supplier of domestic and international telecommunications services in the Philippines with more than 5.7 million customers. It is also the country‘s leading communications provider for high-end, broadband data services.
