DHL voted Asia’s ‘Most Admired Shipping/Transport Company’

DHL Worldwide Express, the world’s leading air express service, has been voted Asia’s "Top Shipping/Transport Company" in the 2000 Asia’s Most Admired Companies Survey conducted by Asian Business.

The survey covers 180 regional and multinational companies operating in nine Asian countries in 10 major industry sectors that include large publicly traded companies and emerging corporate stars in the region in the aftermath of the Asian financial crisis.

In the shipping/transport sector, DHL was chosen Asia’s most admired following the processing of questionnaires sent to 13,000 senior executives, chief executive officers and corporate board members. The survey was ratified by international accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers in Hong Kong.

In the poll, conducted between August and September 2000, respondents were asked to score each company in terms of overall admiration (on a scale of 1-10), then separately in terms of six attributes (on a scale of 1-5): quality of management, quality of products/services, growth potential, honesty and ethics, contribution to society and online/Internet strategies.

On the basis of these considerations, DHL was picked the best, most admired in the shipping/transport category followed by Evergreen Marine, Federal Express, Maersk Shipping, Neptune Orient Lines, and Malaysia International.

By country and in the main list or overall category, DHL was voted 7th most admired in Singapore behind Singapore Airlines, Creative Technology, Hewlett-Packard, McDonald’s, General Electric and Singapore Telecom and 9th best in Hong Kong after Nokia, Hongkong Bank, Hang Seng Bank, Citibank, Mandarin Oriental, McDonald’s, Hutchison Whampoa and Motorola.

DHL Worldwide Express network links more than 85,000 destinations in 228 countries and territories. DHL has a fleet of over 260 aircraft. In Asia-Pacific/Middle East, DHL serves 51 countries and territories, operates more than 1,300 stations, employs more than 18,000 personnel and operates about 3,900 transport vehicles.
