December 26, 2000 | 12:00am
Telecommunications giant Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) is investing P850 million on its Internet data center (IDC) which has been granted pioneer status under the 2000 Investments Priority Plan.
Documents from the Board of Investments (BOI) show that PLDT has applied for the registration of its IDC facility under the information technology services heading of the 2000 IPP.
The facility will be owned by ePLDT Inc., which PLDT said would be financed through equity infusion.
In the registration, PLDT said the IDC facility will be developed as a physically secure facility that will host, co-locate and manage computer servers and applications for various clients.
According to PLDT, the facility will be equipped with environmental scanners to detect air quality, heat and humidity as well as motion detectors, surveillance system and active monitoring with biometric and card access control.
PLDT said the facility will be a cost-effective hosting solution for companies that want to provide their own hardware solutions and keep the website administrative responsibilities completely in house while avoiding the cost associated with space rental and first line maintenance. Des Ferriols
