Dr. Norman Borlaug, recipient of the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize for his work on bringing the benefits of technology into the hands of farmers by providing the spark for the so-called "Green Revolution," will be visiting the Philippines on March 8 to 12, 2000. Dr. Borlaug has untiringly dedicated more than 50 years of the improvement of agricultural productivity in developing countries, in an effort to end world hunger.
Dr. Borlaug will give a talk on "Global Food Security: Harnessing Science in the 21st Century" at a D.L. Umali Memorial Lecture and Forum to be held on March 10, 2000 at the EDSA Shangrila Hotel. Other speakers in the said forum are: Dr. Emil Javier, chairman of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research, Dr. Randy Hautea, director of the ISAA Southeast Asia Center and Dr. Clive James, chairman of the ISAA Board of Directors. The Umali Memorial Lecture and Forum is co-sponsored by the National Academy of Science and Technology and SEAMEO-SEARCA, and is organized with the assistance of the International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-Biotechnology Applications (ISAAA).
