Century Canning launches new campaign

Century Canning Corp. kicks off its millennium marketing campaign this month with the launching of a new and more exciting sequel to its advertising blitz featuring actor Aga Muhlach as endorser.

In the television commercial for Century Tuna, CCC's flagship brand, the canning firm reinforces the health aspect of tuna being a rich source of Omega 3, the essential fatty acid proven by scientists to help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

"It aims to convey the company's social commitment -- to provide a delicious and healthy meal for the average Filipino family" said marketing manager Joseph I. Pineda.

Century Canning is credited for its stellar job in the development of the canned tuna industry and its continued advocacy on healthy foods and having developed a wide range of canned fish products affordable to the mass market.

Industry analysts view better opportunities for the industry in the light of mounting public clamor for healthy diet.

Based on a government survey, it was reported that the average Omega 3 intake of Filipinos from fish is only 0.35 grams per day. This intake level is far below the recommended level by the British Nutrition Foundation of 1.25 grams per day.

The survey showed that the per capita consumption of fish among Filipinos is 99 grams. The types of fish mostly eaten are those that thrive from warm water which are found to have lower levels of Omega 3 than cold water fish like tuna.

Health experts have urged Filipinos to eat more fish or other deep-sea fishes like Omega 3-rich Century Tuna to be able to reach the recommended level.

The 22-year old canning giant is an active industry player, providing employment to some 3,000 people and operates three tuna plants including a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in General Santos City which was recently inaugurated.
