Life is definitely brighter at the Sun Life-GK Village

MANILA, Philippines - There is nothing more inspiring than to see happy faces and gestures of gratitude from those to whom you have given homes to live, a future to which to look forward, and renewed hope for a better life.

This aptly describes what every Sun Lifer felt last April 21 at the blessing of the 60 houses and turnover of ownership certificates to the beneficiaries of the Sun Life-GK Village homes in Christ the King Subdivision, Talon IV, Las Piñas City. Despite the scourging heat that morning, the spirit of brotherhood and love that filled the air gave the Sun Life volunteers and donors a refreshing feeling to see a noble mission accomplished.

The houses were built through the generosity of Sun Life advisors and employees who took part in a company-wide drive to help support the GK housing project.

“We are here to see a dream come true. It is our way of providing a secure future for every Filipino family. Since we are in the business of protection, security and healthcare, partnering with a reputable and trusted organization like GK which has been helping communities not only in the Philippines but around the world provides a perfect fit,” said Sun Life – Philippines President & CEO Riza Mantaring.

“Ang Sun Life-GK Village ay tunay na simbolo ng bayanihan at pagkakaisa! Each one of us contributed, in our own little way, to have these houses completed and be given to our fellowmen who need decent shelter and a better life. Ito ay isang handog na sana’y makapagbigay ng bagong pag-asa at buhay sa ating mga kababayan dito sa Christ the King,” Mantaring said.

Mantaring also gave special recognition to Sun Life New Business Manager Jopin McLaren who broached the idea of supporting the GK projects to Sun Life management team. “Her passion for giving back to the community was really contagious. Our branch managers and staff did not have second thoughts about the idea and we proceeded relentlessly to see the Sun Life-GK village become a reality.”

For his part, GK chairman Tony Meloto lauded Sun Life for this most valuable support. “ Kami po ay tunay na nagpapasalamat sa Sun Life sa magandang pagkakataon na ito. Hindi lang po bahay ang binigay ng Sun Life sa ating mga kapatid dito sa Christ the King, pati na rin po ang dignidad at bagong pag-asa.”

Following the blessing of the houses was the presentation of certificates to the 60 beneficiary families who were there in full force, raring to receive this most special award that will imprint their rightful ownership of these homes which signal the dawning of a new life.
