MANILA, Philippines — Motorcycle sales in the country rose by five percent in the January to September period from a year ago as demand recovered in the third quarter.

In a statement yesterday, the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association (MDPPA) said that its sales in the nine-month period reached 1.46 million units, higher than the 1.39 million units sold in the same period last year.

In the third quarter, MDPPA’s sales returned to growth and went up by eight percent to 524,860 units from 485,690 units in the same period last year.

Motorcycle sales declined by 4.2 percent in the second quarter after growing by 11.6 percent in the first quarter.

The quarterly sales performance reflects the changing pace of the market.

MDPPA said that automatic motorcycles remained as the main driver of growth in the third quarter, accounting for around 74 percent of total sales.

As cumulative and third quarter sales posted year-on-year growth, MDPPA expects to see sustained demand for motorcycles in the final quarter of the year.

“The rebound in the third quarter is an encouraging sign for the industry, especially with the stronger performance we saw in August and September,” MDPPA president Erwin Estrada said.

“This renewed momentum gives us confidence as we enter the final quarter, and we remain optimistic that the industry is on track to reach its sales targets by the end of 2026,” he added.

Last year, MDPPA’s sales reached 1.87 million units.

MDPPA is composed of the following motorcycle manufacturers: Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha.
