Cyberlibel case vs STAR reporter junked

CALBAYOG CITY , Philippines – The Office of the City Prosecutor has dismissed for lack of evidence a cyberlibel complaint filed by a board member of Northern Samar against The STAR correspondent Miriam Desacada.
In a resolution dated Oct. 7 and promulgated the following day, the prosecution dismissed the complaint filed by board member Nadia Bianca Nicolette Ong.
The prosecution said there was no proof showing Desacada personally authored, uploaded, approved or caused the publication of an alleged defamatory post on the social media account of the Eastern Visayas Media Without Borders (EVMWB).
The ruling was penned by investigating prosecutor Creschic Ariega, and approved by Deputy City Prosecutor Marc Anito Camarines and City Prosecutor Fidelito Marmol.
The case stemmed from a road accident in May involving a motorcycle and a van supposedly carrying Ong and members of her staff.
Images of the incident with corresponding captions were posted on EVMWB’s Facebook page.
Ong claimed the post damaged her reputation and portrayed her as irresponsible and unfit for public office.
