Cops warn public of P5K fines, possible jail time for vandalism
CEBU, Philippines — Residents who engage in vandalism and other acts of malicious mischief may face up to P5,000 in fines and possible imprisonment under a city ordinance, the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office said.
The reminder covers City Ordinance No. 16-055-2022, which penalizes acts that damage public and private properties and hinder the implementation of the city’s Clean and Green Project.
Under the measure, first-time offenders face a P3,000 fine, while those who commit the same offense for the second time will be fined P4,000.
Third-time offenders may face a P5,000 fine and/or imprisonment, depending on the court’s discretion.
The LCPO urged residents to help protect public spaces and private properties by refraining from vandalism and other acts that could undermine the city’s efforts to maintain cleanliness and order.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ma. Cynthia King-Chan also expressed support for the strict implementation of the ordinance, calling on residents to respect properties and report violations to the proper authorities.
“Public spaces and private properties must be respected, and we all have a role in keeping our communities clean and orderly,” King-Chan said.
The mayor also urged Oponganons to work with the police in protecting their surroundings and preserving the cleanliness and orderliness of the city. (CEBU NEWS)
