Manila retains trillion-peso city economy

MANILA, Philippines — Manila’s gross domestic product (GDP) hit P1.06 trillion in 2025, placing the capital city third among the cities in the country with a trillion-peso economy.
Also among the trillion-peso economies are Quezon City, which posted a GDP of P1.40 trillion, followed by Makati at P1.27 trillion and the Laguna province at P1.14 trillion.
According to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Manila retained its trillion-peso GDP after it rose from P1.04 trillion in 2024 to P1.06 trillion – a 1.9 percent growth rate.
“Manila is a services-based economy, with the services sector accounting for 77.4 percent of the city’s total GDP, while the industry sector contributes 22.6 percent,” the city government said.
PSA noted that the top three fastest-growing industries in Manila last year were transportation and storage, which accounted for a 10-percent increase, followed by human health and social work activities at 9.4 percent and education at 6.4 percent.
Amelia Basilio, chief statistician specialist, said Manila had an estimated per capita GDP of P565,047 in 2025.
“The city of Manila was among the highly urbanized cities in the National Capital Region that posted a per capita GDP higher than the estimated regional value,” Basilio said.
Manila welcomed the PSA findings, saying that the results are “consistent with the sustained investments” under the Minimum Basic Needs platform of Mayor Isko Moreno.
Other provinces and highly urbanized cities included in the PSA’s top 10 largest economies in the country were Cavite, Batangas, Bulacan, Taguig, Pampanga and Davao City.
