29-year-old South Korean fugitive linked to gambling ring nabbed in Cavite
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration has arrested a 29-year-old South Korean woman wanted in her home country for her alleged role in a massive illegal online gambling syndicate.
In a statement on Monday, August 24, the bureau said Kim Youngsun was arrested on the afternoon of August 7 in Barangay Buenavista I, General Trias, Cavite.
According to the bureau, Kim is the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the Incheon District Court on April 22, 2025, for allegedly establishing and operating an illegal cyber gambling platform.
Interpol subsequently issued a Red Notice against her in June 2025.
According to intelligence provided by South Korean authorities, Kim allegedly served as an assistant manager of a support team and oversaw operational units involved in 23 illegal online gambling websites.
The illicit operations were reportedly run from offices in Pasay City and Quezon City beginning in November 2018.
Authorities estimate that the gambling ring generated approximately 5.33 trillion South Korean won through illegal online sports betting and other gambling activities.
Immigration records showed that Kim entered the Philippines in 2025 as a temporary visitor. She was also found to be overstaying after her authorized stay expired.
Kim is currently detained at the bureau's Warden Facility after undergoing booking and documentation procedures while deportation and other custodial proceedings are underway.
