Woman killed, daughter wounded in Makati shooting

MANILA, Philippines — A 63-year-old woman died while her daughter was wounded after an unidentified assailant opened fire at them outside a hotel in Makati on Monday night.
The Southern Police District (SPD) said the attack happened at 6:46 p.m. at the corner of Makati Avenue and Durban street in Barangay Poblacion.
The mother was declared dead on arrival in the hospital. Her 26-year-old daughter suffered gunshots to the body.
Initial investigation showed the victims were standing near the hotel when the gunman, described as wearing a white shirt, denim shorts and white shoes, approached them and fired at them.
The suspect escaped on foot.
Authorities immediately secured the crime scene and launched a dragnet operation with neighboring police units.
Probers conducted backtracking and forward tracking of closed-circuit television footage to trace the suspect’s movements.
The SPD has organized a special investigation team to focus on the case, including evidence gathering, intelligence coordination and manhunt operations.
Authorities said the gunman’s identity, the motive for the attack and other circumstances surrounding the shooting have yet to be established.
