City government, MCWD vow collaboration to boost water services in Lapu-Lapu
CEBU, Philippines — The Lapu-Lapu City government and the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) have agreed to strengthen coordination to improve water services and ensure the smooth implementation of water infrastructure projects in the city.
During an Infrastructure and Marketing Development Committee meeting, Mayor Ma. Cynthia King-Chan underscored the need for regular coordination between the city government and MCWD to address water supply concerns and align future infrastructure projects.
King-Chan said the city aims to ensure a sufficient and reliable water supply, particularly in the barangays of Marigondon and Suba-Basbas, where water demand continues to increase.
She also welcomed MCWD’s planned expansion of its water distribution system and asked the water district to submit its priority projects under a five-year development plan. According to the mayor, this would allow the city to coordinate road works and excavation schedules to avoid project conflicts and reduce inconvenience to motorists and residents.
The mayor also sought MCWD’s assistance in addressing reported water leaks in several areas of the city to help reduce water losses and improve service delivery.
During the meeting, MCWD presented its existing water supply system and proposed infrastructure projects for Lapu-Lapu City. The water district reported that the city’s estimated daily water demand has reached 147,413 cubic meters, serving 18,649 service connections, including 14,872 residential accounts and 3,777 commercial and other non-domestic connections.
MCWD also outlined proposed transmission and distribution pipeline projects aimed at improving water availability and expanding service coverage to more households.
Both the city government and the water district agreed to maintain close coordination to facilitate the timely implementation of water projects and improve the reliability of water services for residents. (CEBU NEWS)
