Signal No. 1 raised in 12 areas as Super Typhoon Inday intensifies

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over parts of northern Luzon as Super Typhoon Inday (international name: Bavi) slightly intensifies while moving west northwestward over the Philippine Sea, state weather bureau PAGASA said on Wednesday, July 8.
In its 11 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Inday was located 1,270 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 240 kph.
The super typhoon was moving west-northwestward at 20 kph.

- Apayao
- Kalinga
- Isabela
- Ilocos Norte
- Northern portion of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran)
- Northern and central portions of Catanduanes (Pandan, Caramoran, Bagamanoc, Panganiban, Viga, Gigmoto, Baras, San Miguel)
- Northeastern portion of Quirino (Maddela)
- Eastern portion of Ifugao (Aguinaldo, Alfonso Lista)
- Eastern portion of Mountain Province (Natonin, Paracelis)
- Northern portion of Abra (Tineg, Lagayan, Danglas, San Juan, Lagangilang, Licuan-Baay, Malibcong, Lacub, Daguioman, Dolores, La Paz)
Under Signal No. 1, strong winds ranging from 39 to 61 kph may be experienced within 36 hours, posing minimal to minor threats to life and property.
Strong winds. PAGASA said the enhanced southwest monsoon and the outer rainbands of Super Typhoon Inday may bring strong to gale-force gusts over most of the country.
These gusty winds may affect Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, CALABARZON, most of MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, most of Visayas and most of Mindanao on Wednesday. It may continue across most areas of the country on Thursday and Friday.
Sea conditions. A gale warning remains in effect over the eastern seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon and the Visayas.
Very rough seas with waves reaching up to 4.5 meters are expected along the seaboards of Isabela, northern Aurora, northern and eastern Catanduanes and eastern Northern Samar.
PAGASA advised mariners, including operators of small seacraft, to avoid sailing in affected waters due to dangerous sea conditions.
Track, intensity. PAGASA said Inday is expected to move generally west-northwestward within the next 24 hours before turning northwestward over the Philippine Sea.
The super typhoon may pass closest to extreme northern Luzon on Friday, July 10, before heading toward southern Japan and the waters north of Taiwan.
Inday is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday, July 11, and make landfall over the eastern coast of mainland China on Sunday, July 12.
PAGASA said Inday may maintain its super typhoon strength until Thursday before weakening into a typhoon by Thursday evening. However, it is expected to remain a typhoon throughout the rest of the forecast period.
