MANILA, Philippines — Amid a supply shortage, the Department of Health (DOH) has procured 1.2 million bottles of antiretroviral medicines for people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Delays in the delivery of tenofovir/lamivudine/dolutegravir (TLD) bottles have been attributed by the supplier to the Middle East crisis.

“As a temporary measure, we have reduced the quantity dispensed per refill,” HIV testing advocacy group LoveYourself Inc. said.

PhilPharmawealth secured the procurement contract for 1,164,879 TLD bottles on March 23, the DOH said.

The first tranche of 600,000 bottles set for delivery on May 23 did not arrive after the supplier requested an extension of the timeline, the DOH said.

PhilPharmawealth had committed to deliver a partial tranche of 455,217 bottles.
