MANILA, Philippines — The 14-year-old student who was recently foiled by authorities after posting a mass shooting and stabbing threat against a high school in Leyte is also a fan of the violent, suspended video game "Gorebox," Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said.

In a press conference on Thursday, June 25, Remulla said that the girl who threatened the school shooting is also an "avid fan of GoreBox."

"Lahat sila avid fans ng Gorebox," Remulla said. (All of them are avid fans of Gorebox)

The school shooting threat was thwarted after Sen. Bam Aquino warned Remulla of the impending threat.

The girl was in custody of the authorities as of 11 p.m. on June 24, according to Remulla. He added that the girl and the parents have no guns registered.

The game was banned by the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center after the June 22 shooting in Tacloban City, where two minors committed a school shooting, resulting in three deaths.

According to Remulla, investigators believe the 14-year-old was attempting to pull off a "copycat" crime, heavily influenced by a recent shooting incident at San Jose National High School and the violent imagery found in video games.

"Ayun ang delikado dito. Kasi nga nakikita sa video games na napakadali bumatay ng tao," he said. (That's what's dangerous about this. Because they see in video games that it's so easy to kill someone.)

According to Remulla, games like GoreBox should be permanently banned in the Philippines.

"I believe that it desensitizes young people into the elements of death, elements of violence and elements of murder," Remulla said.
