DTI: More Metro Manila rolling stores fielded soon

MANILA, Philippines — To enable consumers to buy basic goods at lower prices, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is planning to deploy more rolling stores in Metro Manila.
Under the initiative, consumers can buy basic necessities and prime commodities such as fresh poultry, processed meat, condiments, canned sardines, laundry and body soaps at discounted prices.
By bringing major food manufacturers directly to the community and removing middlemen, the goods will be made available at a lower cost.
Higher fuel prices have driven up costs of basic items, putting pressure on household budgets.
The initiative also features local micro-businesses to expand the variety of goods available and provide direct retail opportunities for neighborhood vendors.
To maximize the initiative’s impact, the DTI included school supplies sold at discounted prices.
The DTI recently deployed rolling stores in Muntinlupa and Navotas.
In Muntinlupa, major food manufacturers recorded P77,088 in sales during the single-day rollout.
In Navotas, the two day-run resulted in P94,752 in total sales for five participating manufacturers.
