DPWH: Roxas Blvd pumping stations repair done by July

MANILA, Philippines — Following the completion of repairs at the Padre Faura pumping station, two more facilities along Roxas Boulevard will be fixed by early July, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon said the Remedios and Abad pumping stations had broken down due to severe waste clogging, causing floods in nearby areas.
“Hopefully, when all these are done, there will be less flooding all the way to Taft Avenue and P. Ocampo street, including Malate, Kalaw and Faura,” Dizon said. “Or, at the very least, if there is flooding, it will be gone quickly because it will be drained immediately.”
All pumping stations along Roxas Boulevard will be connected to the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) by the end of June, Dizon said.
Due to the lack of building and occupancy permits, Dizon said the pumping stations are currently powered by generators.
“The generator is supposed to back up electricity. That’s why we talked to Meralco and the local government through Mayor Isko Moreno,” Dizon said.
The Manila city government should lead in operating the Padre Faura pumping station’s, with technical support provided by the DPWH, Dizon said.
The DPWH has instructed its district engineer to allocate funding in 2027 for the drainage systems along Taft Avenue to ease flooding in the area.
