MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is set to file complaints against individuals allegedly involved in the deaths of Ateneo basketball players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.

In an ambush interview with reporters on Wednesday, June 24, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the investigation into liability for the deaths of the basketball players is almost complete.

He said the remaining individuals to be interviewed are Ateneo President Fr. Roberto Yap, the management of Ateneo de Manila University and tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan.

“Halos tapos na ang imbestigasyon namin. Medyo conclusive na. Sa Biyernes, isusumite namin sa DOJ for filing ang kaso,” Remulla said.

Remulla said the DILG has interviewed almost 100 people and reviewed 1,200 pages of testimonies.

“Conclusive na and very confident na sa case build-up ang CIDG (Criminal Investigation and Detection Group),” Remulla said.

Baterbonia was buried on Wednesday in his hometown of Talacogon, Agusan del Sur, while Adili’s remains were flown to his home country of Nigeria for burial on Monday, June 22.

Following the drowning incident in Aurora on June 8, members of the Ateneo Blue Eagles basketball team's management have appeared before investigators from the CIDG and the National Bureau of Investigation.

Among those summoned was Ateneo coach Tab Baldwin, who resigned as the team's coach on June 15.
