Funding lang sagot ng MVPSF sa Ateneo program — Panlilio
MANILA, Philippines — Ang pagpopondo lamang sa programa ng Ateneo De Manila University men’s basketball team ang sinasagot ng MVP Sports Foundation.
Ito ang paglilinaw kahapon ni MVPSF president Al S. Panlilio matapos ang pahayag ng Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) na ang Blue Eagles squad ay “autonomous” mula sa Ateneo athletics office at pinamamahalaan ng MVPSF.
“The MVP Sports Foundation (MVPSF) has long supported the Ateneo Men’s Basketball Team, along with many other collegiate and national sports campaigns, programs, and athletes. As with all of the sports programs we support, the MVPSF’s role is limited to providing funding,” sabi ni Panlilio.
Ayon pa kay Panlilio, ang Ateneo men’s basketball team program ay pinapatakbo ng kanilang management at coaching staff.
“The foundation does not own or manage the Ateneo Men’s Basketball Team. It does not run the team’s programs’ and athletes’ management, coaching, recruitment, and player development,” dagdag ng MVPSF head.
Ang pahayag ng MVPSF ay kaugnay sa pagkalunod nina Blue Eagles players Rene Baterbonia at Divine Adili sa kanilang training activity sa Dipaculao Beach, Aurora noong Hunyo 8.
Sinabi ni CIDG director P/Major General Alexander Morico II na ang basketball program ng Ateneo ay pinapatakbo ng MVPSF sa likod ng Smart, isang major telco company na nasa ilalim ni sports patron Manny V. Pangilinan ng PLDT Group.
Ang MVPSF ay mula sa inisyal ni Pangilinan.
Nilinaw din ng MVPSF na bagama’t si Epok Quimpo ay kawani ng Smart Communications, siya rin ang Blue Eagles team manager.
“We understand he has served with the Ateneo Men’s Basketball Team in his own personal capacity over the past full decade - as an alumnus of Ateneo, and as a former member of the Ateneo Men’s Basketball Team, who was invited by Ateneo to be its team manager,” wika ng MVPSF kay Quimpo na nagbitiw sa kanyang posisyo kagaya ni head coach Tab Baldwin.
“In that engagement, he has always been under the authority and direction of the University and its officials,” dagdag ng MVPSF.
Hindi na itinuloy ng Blue Eagles ang kanilang kampanya sa kasalukuyang idinadaos na 19th Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup dahil sa pagkamatay nina Baterbonia at Adili.
