MANILA, Philippines — Isinailalim ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) ang New Caledonia sa "Crisis Alert Level 2" kaugnay ng naunang state of emergency sa French overseas territory.

Ibinahagi ng kagawaran ang balita ngayong Huwebes matapos pumutok ang ilang riot bunsod ng plano ng France na ireporma ang voting rights sa dati nitong kolonya.

"There are approximately 200 Filipinos and Filipinos by descent living in New Caledonia," wika ng DFA ngayong araw.

"Filipinos living in New Caledonia are advised to remain vigilant, avoid public places, and restrict non-essential movement. Filipinos are also advised to monitor and follow guidelines set by local authorities."

 

 

Tumutukoy ang Alert Level 2 sa "restriction phase." Oras na lumala ang tensyon, maaari itong maging Alert Level 3 (voluntary repatriation) o Alert Level 4 (mandatory repatriation).

Umabot na sa pito katao ang namamatay sa gitna ng dalawang linggong kagulugan sa naturang teritoryo, bagay na matatagpuan sa kontinente ng Oceania. Daan-daang katao na rin ang sugatan matapos nito.

Ilang araw pa lang ang nakalilipas nang bawiin ng Pransya ang state of emergency sa New Caledonia. Sa kabila nito, epektibo pa rin ang mga curfew doon maliban pa sa pagpapadala ng daan-daang paramilitary reinforcements.

Una nang iginiit ng Kanak and Socialist National Liberation Front (FLNKS), isang pro-independence alliance ng mga partidong pulitikal sa New Caledonia, na dapat bawiin ang naturang voting reforms matapos makipagkita kay French President Emmanuel Macron.

Walang sariling pangulo ang New Caledonia matapos maideklarang overseas territory ng mga Pranses noong 1946. Gayunpaman, merong French citizenship ang mga taga rito at bumoboto rin para sa presidente ng France.
