P2M tax kinita sa Juan Luna painting

MANILA, Philippines - Kumita ang gobyerno ng P2,026,639.00 duties and taxes para sa Juan Luna painting na binili sa auction ng Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art sa Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center noong November 24, 2012.

Ayon kay Customs deputy collector for passenger services, Teresita Roque, ang 83x54cm oil on canvas painting na “La Española”, ay dumating sa bansa kasama ang bagong may-ari nito na si Jayson N. Ong, lulan ng CX-901 mula HK noong Nov. 30, 2012 subalit nito lang Dec. 4, 2012 naiuwi ang painting matapos magbayad ng buwis. 

Ayon kay Roque, nasa Customs counter ng NAIA Terminal 1 si Ong ng ideklara niya ang isang Juan Luna painting bunsod para kwestiyunin siya. Agad namang ipinakita ni Ong ang isang sulat na pirmado ni Mathilde Heaton, senior counsel ng Christie’s Legal Department, Asia na patunay na siya ang successful bidder at buyer ng painting.

Ang painting ay HK$1,640,000 o  P8,692,000.00. Naipinta ang La Española noon 1884, kasabay ng Spoliarium. Napilitan si Ong na ideposit muna ang painting sa BOC in-bond section habang hindi pa nito nababayaran ang P2,026,639.00 duties and taxes.
