Island Express suspendido matapos masunog ang barko sa dagat - DOTC

MANILA, Philippines -  Pansamantalang pina­kansela ng Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) ang permit upang makapag­layag ang lahat ng barko ng Island Express Shipping matapos masunog ang isang barko nito na nagresulta sa pagkamatay ng tatlo katao noong Linggo.

 Kasabay nito ay inatasan ni DOTC Secretary Mar Roxas ang  Board of Marine Inquiry na ipatawag ang opisyal ng nasabing shipping company para makunan ng pahayag hinggil sa naturang insidente.

 “At this point, public safety is our primordial concern. I will not allow shipping companies to take chances with the lives of the passengers. DOTC will ensure that whenever a passenger steps on a ship, he can be certain that ship will have passed all the stringent requirements for safety,” ayon kay Sec. Roxas.

Partikular na hindi muna pinaglayag ang isang fast craft at apat pang RORO vessel ng nasabing kumpanya.  Ito’y upang matiyak na lahat umano ng sasakyang pandagat ng naturang kumpanya ay ligtas sa paglalayag.

Matatandaan na galing sa Cebu patungong Tubigon, Bohol ang M/V Island Express nang masunog may limang milya ang layo sa Timog-Silangan ng Lawis ledge, Cebu City na nagresulta sa pagkasawi ng tatlo katao.

Kinilala ang mga biktima na mga pasahero na sina Matea Infiesto, 62 at Nicetas Cabrera, 73-anyos, kapwa ng Lagsing, Bacani, Clarin, Bohol at ang Chief Mate ng barko na si Abelardo Torrevillas Sr., 57-anyos.
