2 US warship nasa Palawan na

MANILA, Philippines - Dumating na sa Pa­la­wan ang dalawang barkong pandigma ng Amerika kaugnay ng isasagawang war games sa susunod na linggo ng Pilipinas at US naval forces sa Sulu Sea malapit sa pinagtatalunang West Philippine Sea (South China Sea).

Ayon sa Philippine Navy, magsisimula sa Hunyo 28 ang 17th Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) na tatagal hanggang sa unang bahagi ng Hulyo ng taong ito.

Ang USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93) na armado ng guided missile at ang USS Howard (DDG 93) ay may kasamang isang USNS “Safeguard” salvage ship na lalahok sa joint military exercises sa pagitan ng US at Phl naval forces. Aabot sa 800 US Navy personnel ang lalahok sa naturang war games.

Kabilang sa mga isasagawa sa CARAT ang Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) exercises; diver training; salvage operations; joint medical, dental and civic action projects, aircrew familiarization exchan­ges, search and rescue practices, humanitarian assistance at disaster relief missions.

Bukod sa Navy per­sonnel, magpapartisipa  rin sa CARAT ang US Navy Seabees, US Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team (MSST), US Navy Mobile Security Squadron, US Navy Riverine Forces, Medical Support personnel at P-3C Orion at SH-60 Seahawk aircraft.

Ang CARAT ay serye ng bilateral military exercises sa pagitan ng US Navy at Armed Forces mula sa mga bansang kaalyado nito sa Pilipinas, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore at Thailand. Kalahok din ang Vietnam sa CARAT.
