9 Pinoy seafarers back from Lebanon
MANILA, Philippines — Nine more Filipino seafarers affected by the Middle East conflict returned home yesterday, the Department of Migrant Workers said.
The DMW said the seafarers arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after being stranded for several months in Lebanon.
“They were crewmembers of M/V Hawk III, which was caught in the Middle East conflict,” the DMW said in a social media post.
Eleven Filipino seafarers are waiting to be repatriated, the DMW said.
The returning overseas Filipino workers were welcomed by representatives of the DMW and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
The DMW said the seafarers would also receive financial aid and other services to help them secure new jobs.
The repatriation was made possible through the coordination of the DMW, OWWA, Migrant Workers Office in Lebanon and the Philippine embassy in Beirut.
As of July 10, the DMW said 10,580 Filipinos have been repatriated from Middle East countries.
