3 die in 3 weekend road crashes

MANILA, Philippines — A woman died after a public utility jeepney hit her motorcycle, dragging her about 20 meters along Ortigas Avenue Extension in Cainta, Rizal on Sunday evening.

Police said the victim was a backrider of the motorcycle driven by her brother on their way to Pasay. Her brother stopped along the road to allow pedestrians to cross, unaware that the jeepney was speeding behind them.

Responders rushed the siblings to a hospital where the woman later died.

In Bustos, Bulacan, a man died after a scooter rammed the motorcycle he was driving along Gen. Alejo Santos Highway in Barangay Tanawan.

His two backriders were seriously injured and taken to the Baliwag District Hospital for treatment.

The scooter driver, identified only as Dollesin, was placed under police custody.

In Binalonan, Pangasinan, police said a 32-year-old man died after his motorcycle crashed into a truck parked along the national highway in Barangay Canarvacanan.

The 67-year-old truck driver told investigators that parked his vehicle along the road to take a nap. — Cesar Ramirez
