Price cap sa bugas kinahanglang bantayan

CEBU, Philippines — Duha ka mga magbabalaod ang mipadayag og suporta sa gipagawas nga Executive Order No. 39 ni Presidente Ferdinand Marcos Jr. nga nagbutang og limitasyon sa presyo sa kada kilo sa bugas tungod sa nagkataas nga presyo sa tanang palaliton karon.

Ang taga oposisyon ug beterano nga mga magbabalaod nga silang Reps. Edcel Lagman ug Joey Salceda sa Albay first ug second district mi endorser sa Executive Order 39 sa pangulo.

Ang EO 39 nagmando sa tanang retailers og bugas nga kinahanglang dili molapas sa P41 matag kilo ang regular milled rice  ug P45 kada kilo ang well-milled rice. “I essentially agree with the President’s imposition of a price ceiling, but clarification should be made on the price cap of imported rice, unless it would fall under the subject rice varieties,” matud pang Lagman, kinsa maoy presidente karon sa opposition nga Liberal Party.  Samtang si Salceda miingon nga: “there is clearly abuse of market power among certain participants, as was made evident in recent raids of warehouses.” “There is some arbitrage and undue padding of margins in the sector, and a rice price ceiling will help put a stop to that behavior.”

“But price ceilings can have negative second round effects, such as shortages. If we want to avoid any shortage, the price ceiling must not be higher than equilibrium price”

“Our monitoring of supply must not merely be at the aggregate national level. If you impose a price ceiling but some areas have less rice than they need, you will see supply problems in the rice-deficit areas,” pasabot pang Salceda,  kinsa maoy kanhi NEDA chief.

“We are confident that the imposition of a price ceiling is only a temporary measure. We expect the rice harvest to commence soon and anticipate that other initiatives will produce the desired result,” dugang pa sa NEDA.
