Cristina Chi

Chi is a reporter for Philstar.com covering disinformation, education, foreign affairs, and local politics, with special reports on human rights and social justice.

She leads the newsroom's investigative coverage of influence operations, in which she has mapped the spread of some of the Philippines' most polarizing narratives — from the framing of former President Rodrigo Duterte's International Criminal Court arrest, to narratives on the South China Sea, to cross-border efforts to discredit international aid in Asia.

The Philippine Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility selected her as a panelist for its Jaime V. Ongpin Journalism Seminar — a recognition of distinguished work in ethical and quality reporting — for three consecutive years (2023-2025). In 2025, her work tracking influence operations was profiled by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. Her reporting has also been recognized by Covering Climate Now and the International Labor Organization's annual awards for labor migration journalism.

As a student journalist, she co-produced an investigation into years of alleged abuse within a collegiate athletics team at the country's flagship state university, prompting an overhaul of its coaching staff.

She holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of the Philippines Diliman.
