Recyclables collection event set in June

- Benny G. Enriquez -
In celebration of the Environment Month this coming June, the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) in cooperation with the private sector, is set to launch a "Recyclables Collection Event" (RCE) in four key locations in the country.

The even is slated on June 10 in Davao, June 16 in Quezon City, June 23 in Benguet and June 30 in Cebu. The RCE is a series of one-day collection/buying events for recyclable materials. It was conceptualized for a multi-faceted purpose to promote year round recycling, waste segregation, waste reduction and materials recovery. It encourages more participation of industrial waste generators, industry and business establishments, LGUs and government agencies. It is expected to generate more private sector investment in the recycling industry. It likewise promotes the economic benefits of recycling more particularly earning income from disposable waste.

The recyclables which can be redeemed for cash at the RCEs are used papers and cartons; junk electronics and electrical equipment; used lead batteries; used PET bottles and other plastics; aluminum cans; scrap glass; used printer ink and toner cartridges; and used tires.

The partial list of participating recyclers as of publication include the following: Trust Int’l Paper Corp.; HMR Envirocycle; Phil. Recyclers Inc.; San Miguel Corp.; Manila Glass; YGARC Trading; Polystyrene Packaging Council of the Phil.; Clean Leaf Industrial Sales; and Polytrader Plastic Products.

For more information, visit the DENR main office in Visayas Avenue, Quezon City or call at 9296626.
