OWWA-Bicol releases P10K cash assistance for Libya repatriates

MANILA, Philippines - Filipino repatriates from Libya received P10,000 each as part of the Financial Relief Assistance Program of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

A total of P1.52 million in cash was released as financial assistance for Bicolano Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) repatriated from Libya. According to OWWA-Regional Welfare Office 5, there are 276 Bicolanos deployed in Libya, most of them are from Camarines Sur.

The Department of Labor and Employment implemented the Assist WELL (Welfare, Employment, Livelihood, and Legal Assistance) Program to aid Libya expatriates.

Three thousand repatriates have arrived in the country since the Department of Foreign Affairs raised the crisis alert to level 4 which compels mandatory repatriation.

The OWWA monitors repatriation efforts for the remaining 10,000 OFWs in Libya.

Libya fell into crisis when former Major General Khalifa Haftar directed attacks on Benghazi. Libya’s top officials condemned these attacks deemed as the militant leader’s “coup” according to parliament website.
