Pinoys told: Don't wear red, yellow in Thailand

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand warned Filipinos against wearing either yellow or red colors as these are identified with opposing parties behind the political unrest in the capital.

In a statement late Wednesday, the embassy issued an advisory for overseas Filipinos and those who will travel there to remain politically neutral.

The pro-government Red Shirt movement and the anti-government Yellow Shirts led by the self-style People's Democratic Reform Committee have recently organized some of the largest mass demonstrations in its modern history escalating a turmoil sparked by the February polls.

"Participating and/or showing support in any form to any of the parties is strongly discouraged.  For information, the red and yellow colors are closely identified with some of the parties involved.

The embassy also advised Filipinos to avoid crowds and demonstrations due to recent incidents of violence that resulted in fatalities and injuries.

Travelers and workers should also keep away from areas identified with the parties.

"Given the fluidity of the situation, the places to avoid could change periodically.  Everyone is, therefore,advised to continue being vigilant and to closely monitor developments," the embassy said, adding that regular updates may be obtained from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs page.

The embassy added that Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok's international airport, and Don Mueang Airport for domestic flights remain operational.

Public transportation are also operating normally as well, except for increased traffic congestion and security measures.
