EASL 2026-27 season kicks off at SM Seaside Arena

CEBU, Philippines — All roads lead to the SM Seaside Cebu Arena as the highly anticipated East Asia Super League (EASL) 2026-27 season gets underway with a historic doubleheader today (Saturday, October 3).

This marks the first professional basketball games ever played at the sprawling multi-event facility, which officially opened its doors just last July.

Macau Hau Chon and the Philippines’ Abra Weavers, two of the five clubs making their EASL debuts, will see action in the season-opening games.

Macau battles the Taiwan Fubon Braves in the 4 p.m. opener, while the Weavers tangle with Hong Kong Eastern at 7 p.m.

Goyang Sono Skygunners, TSG GhostHawks and Nagasaki Velca are the three other teams making their first appearances on Asia’s biggest club stage.

The first club from the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) to compete in the EASL, the Weavers will have their first opportunity to show how their domestic success translates against regional competition.

They must be ready for different styles of basketball from across the region, beginning with an experienced Eastern team before Group C brings meetings with Japan’s Ryukyu Golden Kings and Chinese Taipei’s Taoyuan Pauian Pilots.

Playing on home soil and in front of their fans could give the Weavers a significant boost in their bid for a winning start.
